Habitat-Roanoke Opens Homebuyer Applications for Summer 2026
Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley is excited to open its Homebuyer Program application window for the first time in two years. This is an important opportunity for families who are ready to take the next step toward safe, stable and affordable homeownership.
The Homebuyer Program is designed to help qualified applicants prepare for and purchase a Habitat home through education, support and partnership. Habitat-Roanoke works with future homeowners throughout the process, but the program also requires commitment. Applicants should be ready to attend classes, complete program requirements, participate in sweat equity and prepare for the financial responsibilities that come with owning a home.
Because home opportunities for 2027 will be competitive, now is the time to get ready. Interested families are encouraged to carefully read the program expectations, review their finances, gather important documents and spend the next few months preparing for the obligations of homeownership. This includes thinking seriously about mortgage payments, insurance, taxes, savings, debt and other household expenses. There are also changes to this application cycle, including a $35 application fee.
Habitat-Roanoke will offer several orientation classes this summer for anyone who wants to learn more about the program and how to apply. The sessions will be held July 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Melrose Branch Library; July 25 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Williamson Branch Library; August 1 from 10 a.m. to noon at Gainsboro Branch Library; August 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Habitat ReStore; and September 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Habitat ReStore.
Applications will be posted online starting July 20 at habitat-roanoke.org/programs/homebuyer. The application deadline is September 18, 2026.
For families who have been waiting for this chance, this is the time to learn, prepare and take that first step toward home.
