Women Build 2026 is underway in Southeast Roanoke, bringing volunteers, community partners, and a future homeowner together for a week of construction, connection, and empowerment.
This year’s project is especially meaningful because the Women Build home is also Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley’s 40th Anniversary Community House. The home is being built in partnership with a single mother and her three children, creating a safe, stable place where the family can grow and build a stronger financial future.
Throughout the week, volunteers from local businesses and organizations are working alongside the homebuyer and Habitat-Roanoke’s construction team. Participants are gaining hands-on experience, learning new skills, and demonstrating what can happen when a community works toward a shared goal.
Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build movement began in 1991 and invites women—and everyone who supports its mission—to help build and repair homes. The program creates welcoming opportunities for people of all experience levels to develop construction skills while addressing the need for safe, affordable housing.
The work taking place this week represents more than the construction of a house. Every board installed, nail driven, and hour volunteered helps create a foundation for stability, opportunity, and potential generational wealth. It also honors Habitat-Roanoke’s four decades of bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
